Reuters/Johan Nilsson/TT News Agency/File Photo By Joachim Dagenborg | OSLO OSLO (Reuters) - Norwegian Air (NWC.OL) is lobbying its government to scrap a deal which prevents it from flying the "Siberian Corridor" over Russia, the shortest route between Scandinavia and Asia. Russia only allows one airline per country to use its airspace and under the terms of a 1956 Soviet-era deal with Denmark, Norway and Sweden only Scandinavian Airlines (SAS.ST) and Aeroflot (AFLT.MM) can fly the route. Since Scandinavia is three countries and SAS, which is partly owned by all three, only flies direct to Asia from Denmark and Sweden, Norway should rework the deal, Norwegian Air argues. Europe's third-largest budget airline by passenger numbers after Ryanair (RYA.I) and EasyJet(EZJ.L) has to take a longer, more expensive route for its flights to Thailand. Now Norwegian Air wants to fly elsewhere in Asia and its executives met Norway's foreign minister Boerge Brende on Tuesday to see if the deal could be replaced. "We have our planes ready to go and we want to start flying these direct routes to Asia as soon as possible, but we can't because of this incredibly outdated deal," its spokeswoman said. "Most of these Asian routes will never happen if we are not allowed to fly over Siberia. It would be so much more expensive that we haven't even bothered to do the maths." Norway's transport ministry said it plans to bring up the case during the first half of 2017. "Norwegian authorities are continuously assessing how these rights may best be secured in the negotiations with Russia," it wrote in a statement.

Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 12, 2017 In Los Angeles, David Marin, head of ICEs local removal operations, told reporters that the agency had made approximately 160 arrests, and that roughly 75 percent of those arrested had prior felony convictions. But Marin said some of the undocumented immigrants netted in the raids did not, stoking fear and panic among those living in immigrant communities . In Texas, where there were a flurry of arrests in cities such as San Antonio and Austin, Rep. Joaquin Castro said he is asking ICE to clarify whether these individuals are in fact dangerous, violent threats to our communities, and not people who are here peacefully raising families and contributing to our state. The raids were the first large-scale enforcement carried out under Trumps Jan. 25 executive order that broadened the scope of powers given to ICE agents to crack down on the estimated 11 million immigrants living in the U.S. During his presidential campaign, Trump vowed to triple the number of ICE deportation officers. I am going to create a new special deportation task force focused on identifying and quickly removing the most dangerous criminal illegal immigrants in America who have evaded justice, Trump said last August . Anyone who has entered the United States illegally is subject to deportation. That is what it means to have laws and to have a country. Otherwise we dont have a country. Amnesty International said the recent ICE raids raise grave human rights concerns. It is a violation of human rights to tear families apart through deportation, Amnesty International executive director Margaret Huang said in a statement .
